Having some fun with my hair and makeup

These are just some fun photos I took while taking a break.  For the most part this is showing my current choice of protective styling---a rollerset.  Let's see how long this style will last me.  I'll try to make is stretch until my hair appointment.

For all my naturals out there you know the importance of protective styling, especially if your goal is to retain length.  I consider protective styling to be all the more important for those that are in programs where they just don't have the time to dedicate to their hair.  I have very coarse and thick hair so it's still not an easy task but it will help my hair to remain healthy and grow.

Lately, I've been moisturizing my hair with water and my leave-in conditioner (Giovanni Direct Leave-in Conditioner).  Then I'll seal with coconut oil and shea butter.  For this particular style I just used some flexi-rods and separated the curls.

Then I felt like looking cute today (please don't think I'm conceited LOL) so I used my new Urban Decay Palette.  I think it was more so that I felt like playing in makeup and testing out my new palette.  Either way I like the pop of color that I got from my bronzer and the UD palette.  I then paired the makeup with a gold top and my fav watch with my fav earrings.

And, here's the outcome...
Don't let the shrinkage fool you.

Self party

cheese- yes I was a bit bored lol
I should have gone out somewhere right?  But I can't because we have 2 more exams and assignments due before we go on.....SPRING BREAK ;)

  1. Playing with makeup is what it is all about. I love days when I have no where to go and try all sorts of outrageous and daring combinations. When makeup stops being fun, I will stop wearing it. Thanks for linking up with Medical MOndays and enjoy your spring break!

    1. Hey! Thanks for coming back to my blog. I always appreciate the invitation to participate in Medical Mondays. The blogs that I come across are always so interesting and different.

As for makeup...I love to play in it. I've been trying to learn to apply it well. But it's clear that makeup artistry is a talent that takes time to master LOL. I like the simple, natural look anyway. I'd like to play around with pairing clothes next. I came across a blogger that does it pretty well.

    1. Thank you. Having a little bit of fun is the only way I make it through the semester LOL. Thanks for the good vibes. We finished the class I was studying for last week and now we are on to other units. I'm sure you'll read my many rants about them LOL.

  3. I'm linking up with Medical Mondays and found your blog through that :)
I'm digging your lip color! Some glossy shade of pink? Personally, I can never pull off a color like that. It makes me self-conscious because it "pops" too much.

I'm going to read all your posts on studying before I start my M1 year @_@

    1. Hey! Thanks for checking out my blog on Medical Mondays and for the compliment. The color I had on here is actually a mix to two different colors (They're both from the MAC brand). I felt like being super random that day I guess LOL.

There are certainly some colors that I love on other people but when I try them they just don't go. It's all about finding the colors that you love, which given the plethora of shades out there you're bound to find at least one. Although I am wearing lipstick here on of my favorite shades is a pink lip gloss. I have a post on here about it. It's pretty subtle and can pass for my natural lip color, I think.

I'll definitely check out your blog and good luck with your upcoming first year. It's tough but you can make it through and you'll build a great bond with your classmates. I look forward to reading about your new adventures!

  4. Great post!! I'm a black medical resident and it's refreshing to see other black females in the "struggle". Trust me it will end eventually. I will definitely be supporting you from the sidelines. If you have any questions or want to see what it will be like as a resident, head over the the blog that myself and my med school bff started.
    Good luck and God Bless
